After Your Procedure

When to Seek Urgent Help

Please go to your nearest emergency department if you have severe or persistent abdominal pain, fever, bloody bowel movements or vomiting. Follow the emergency instructions on your discharge sheet and contact the clinic promptly.

YOUR PROCEDURE

Aftercare Instructions

Follow the discharge instructions provided for your procedure. Review the clinic’s aftercare information and contact us if anything is unclear.

Gastroscopy

Following your gastroscopy, you may experience a mild throat or some bloating. It’s important to adhere to the eating and drinking guidelines provided on your discharge sheet. Avoid hot food or drinks when you first resume eating and drinking.

Colonoscopy

After a colonoscopy, you may experience temporary bloating or gas pain. If a biopsy or polyp removal was performed, a small amount of bleeding may occur. However, if you notice a bloody bowel movement, it’s important to seek medical advice promptly. Be aware that bleeding related to polyp removal can occur several days after the procedure. Please follow your discharge instructions carefully and adhere to any urgent-help guidance provided.

RECOVERY AT HOME

Rest and Recover After Your Visit

Before you leave, the care team will review your discharge information. Procedure reports are sent to the referring physician within 24 hours. Biopsy results will require a separate follow-up appointment; confirm the arrangements with the clinic.

After Sedation

Arrange for a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for 24 hours. For 24 hours after sedation, do not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol or make important decisions. Rest and follow the activity restrictions on your discharge sheet.

Your Journey

During your recovery, you might experience mild bloating or occasional gas pain, which typically subsides within a few hours. If you notice any worsening redness, swelling, or tenderness around the IV site, please reach out to your doctor for guidance.

It’s important to follow the clinic’s instructions regarding eating, drinking, restarting any medications and activities.

We’re here to support you every step of the way to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery.
